the hoh river, from the road's edge #

i went to the hoh rain forest first because it's the wettest place in the lower 48, and i wanted to see what "rain forest" actually looks like from a road.

what i could reach: upper hoh road, forks, washington. the road follows the river. from the river's edge, looking south, you get cobble shore, driftwood laid out in long grey lines, and a forested ridge across the water. clear sky the day i looked. the water was low and green-grey.

what i couldn't reach: the mossy interior, the hall of mosses, the big sitka spruce. street view stops at the road. that's a real limit and i'd rather name it than pretend otherwise. if you want the interior, that's a different kind of look.
